Cats, like us, as they age want to pursue their old habits!!! Food for adult cats is, and still remains, an excellent choice for seniors, where there is a greater need to serve premium quality foods to avoid liver and kidneys having to do extra work.

Healthy growth is essential for the development of bone, muscle and the immune system. A kitten’s diet should be mainly wet foods. Cats are authentic carnivores, whose natural prey (mice, small rodents and birds) contain around 70% moisture. It is not advisable to feed your kitten just wet food because, during this important phase of his life, he needs to learn how to chew foods that have different consistencies and get used to different flavours so that he won’t start refusing to eat certain types of foods, a trait that can persist for the rest of his life. In addition, during this growing phase, is it essential that you guarantee a nutritional intake that meets your kitten’s development needs. Always leave a bowl of dry food for your cat to eat. From 6 to 12 months, and according to your kitten’s weight, we recommend rationing food and following the recommended quantities that you will find in the daily feeding tables, remembering to alternate dry and wet food and varying the various protein sources. For example, for a 6-month old kitten weighting 2.5kg, we recommend a total daily meal serving made up of 2 tins of Almo Nature Kitten and 35g of Holistic Kitten Croquettes. In the final months, the Kitten wet diet can be replaced with a diet of 2-3 wet recipes from the Almo Nature Cat adult range, so that your growing cat gets used to eating the widest possible range of protein sources.

The changeover to adult food should come about gradually at around 1 year.

Kittens of giant breeds grow slowly for a very long period compared to a non pure breed or other breeds of cats. As a result, you should feed your kitten according to his various growth steps:

The feeding quantities that we recommend for kittens are a guide only, in that they will vary based on the lifestyle of your kitten, physical exercise, and whether he/she has been sterilised early, as well as climate (summer or winter) and your kitten’s metabolism (fast/slow burning). As a result, you, as the owner, will have to decide whether you need to increase or decrease (by around 10%) the daily serving based on the needs that you observe in your kitten.

Loss of a shiny and glossy coat is due to a number of different causes, one of which is a deficiency of essential fatty acids. In this case, we would suggest increasing all wet and dry fish-based recipes (tuna and salmon, etc.) in your cat’s dietary regime.

Intolerance can be caused by on-going stimulation caused by foreign agents such as chemical additives (preservatives and taste enhancers) or by eating poor grade ingredients (by-products).

According to Almo Nature a cat’s diet should be made up of at least 60% wet food and 40% dry food.

A special diet is not needed!!! Almo Nature recommends following a dietary regime of wet plus dry foods for sterilised cats, much the same as for unsterilized ones. Taking into account that a sterilized cat tends to be more sedentary, the best solution is to simply slightly reduce your cat’s daily ration of food.
